December 7, 2011: Heavy Plastic

Now Jeff Lebowski won't listen.  I played Creedence last week! Looking for an LP of bowling strikes.
Some heavy music, some is light hearted, some is less so. You know that feeling when someone has been telling you to listen to some album for ages and then you do and it re-defines your universe? Melvins, Bad Brains...

Nice lair, Crimewave.
Also some surprisingly good music from Anvil and we let Hawkwind play us out.

Robot News Human? Robot pick a side! Robots show their human side.

November 30, 2011: Good News About the Creedence

Hard to resist an album with a cover like this.
This week we started off with a rare-find EP compiled of Afro-funk from singles recorded by an outfit called the Psychedelic Aliens. While they are pefhaps remembered more for their name and signature "Psycho African Beat" than any exceptional music, this Academy release is worth it just to drop into that time and place of Ghana in the late sixties. The large booklet in the vinyl release is also worth a glance.
I defy anyone to create an inner sleeve that is anymore hip. Okay, maybe if the cat had a moustache.
New music from Quest for Fire's Chad Ross. Very similar to Quest's sound this is a little more dreamuy and guitarey.

Eno's leavings beat most other's mains.

Left over from this year's "Drums Between the Bells", the music of Eno and the words of Rick Holland are extended with this EP. A decent afterthought to enjoy on a crisp late winter morning.

This week's robot news claim is truly staggering, a can-bot that seems to recognize itself in a mirror and a claim that it is self-aware. Before you get all "...not just ro-bot, Number 5 is... alive!" pn us, we have not been able to verify who exactly performed this research and whether the claim is accurat or plausible. The bot is possibly the child of "Thecorpora Robot Company" who appears to have posted a blog explaining the experiment. Certainly no academic institution seems to be associated with this claim much less any published paper setting out what is meant by "self-aware" or demonstrating that this has occurred. This could be an exaggeration, or an all out hoax.
